(Winter Solstice / Midwinter)
The Wheel of the Year has turned and we are back in the darkness; the primordial womb of life.
The cycle begins again…

The God at Yule
As the Sun moves into Capricorn – the sign of authority, status, and mastery – the Shadow of the Sun God reaches maximum strength as the Holly King. Remember, shadows are longest when the sun is lowest. The energy of this sometimes-antlered, holly & mistletoe-adorned old man with the long white hair and beard, is held by Saturn, who makes his home in Capricorn.
Saturn is the guardian and the mentor who represents protection, work, and productivity. He is also the Lord of the Harvest and Father Time, respecting the natural laws, and honouring time and experience as the true teachers of wisdom. As Saturn, the Holly King knows his time has come and he departs with grace as the Goddess births his complement, the Oak King. The shadows will shorten and the days grow brighter and longer, as the Oak King’s reign begins.

The Goddess at Yule
As for the Goddess, the Earth moves into Cancer, liminal sign of the womb and tomb, representing both the mother and crone aspects concurrently. As the crone, the Goddess witnesses the passing of the Holly King easing him into the tomb, even as she births the Light of the Sun God as the mother.
Cancer is home to the Moon, the traveller overseeing cycles and connection with the Divine Feminine, the Matriarch of life. She is the archetypal container – the cauldron, the grail, the vessel for the Soul. It is only through the Moon that solar energies are able to manifest on Earth, reflected in the ever-cycling Wheel of the Year.
GIRDLE OF THE GODDESS
In the language of Theodomy, the 12 signs of the zodiac are further divided into 36 primordial energies of the divine feminine, called the Girdle of the Goddess.
At the time of Yule, the sun is in the 28th primordial energy activating Frau Holle, the Goddess of Midwinter. See my Holle post for more information.
Wishing you all a very Blessed Solstice and a peaceful Yuletide season…and may the gifts of Frau Holle be well deserved.
LUNATION & THE WHEEL OF THE YEAR

Because the cosmos is actually beautifully ordered chaos, the eight lunation phases sync very well with the eight Sabbats on the Wheel of the Year; lunar and solar symbiosis. So, with this new turning of the Wheel we will explore each of the lunation phases in conjunction with their solar (Sabbat) counterpart.
Starting with…

Yule & The New Moon
Moon conjuncts Sun 0°
Moon rises at sunrise, sets at sunset
0-3.5 days after New Moon
Seed
Dark Dawning
Begin, Emerge, Renew, Rebirth, Incarnate, Generate, Project, Awaken, Plan, Instinct
The New Moon energy emerges, initiates and projects the seed impulse in an instinctive and subjective manner that will fulfill and complete a purpose, as the cycle unfolds. In the absence of light, the vision is felt, not seen. The symbolic seed germinates underground. The New Moon phase is like a seed planted in the earth – we cannot see it but it is ready to grow, full of potential, vitality and energy for the new journey.
Reincarnation and rebirth, time for seeding new thoughts, ideas and actions, let instinctive or gut feelings be expressed, think not of yesterday or tomorrow, only today, cast aside the old and outworn.
This is a natural time to start new cycles and undertake new challenges.
