(Vernal Equinox)
While it is generally acknowledged that the equinoxes (Ostara and Mabon) were not holidays recognized and celebrated by the Old Ones, it is the start of the astrological year.
THE WHEEL OF THE YEAR
**The equinox is a time to appreciate the dual nature of the God. While the Goddess is a constant, the God cycles. Representing both life and death, the God is both a solar deity (Oak King) and an earthly deity (Horned God). At the Vernal Equinox, the solar, birth energies of Yule (in Capricorn) unite with the waxing, earthly energies of Imbolg (in Aquarius) to bring forth life and the rising of the God at Ostara (in Aries).
“Alala!”

Hear the battle cry of the God as the Sun now moves into Aries (ruled by the planet Mars), the first sign of the zodiac and the sign of action, initiation, and the warrior. Day and Night are equally matched today but, at the end of the battle, Day will win and daylight hours will begin to outnumber the dark.
Yule marked the God’s birth. At Imbolg the God took on the role of Lord of Life representing growth for the entire group. Over the past month he has matured through Pisces understanding his transcendent role as both father and son – as well as life and death – in the ever cycling Wheel of the Year. In full acceptance and understanding, he now comes forth full of vitality and virility!

As for the Goddess, She gained a sense of Self in Leo and has spent the last month growing and maturing through the earth sign, Virgo (the Virgin – “whole unto Herself”). Now, She ascends from the earth and moves into the balancing, Venus ruled, Libra. In the co-operative sign of Libra, the Goddess looks towards partnership in Her task of resurrecting life on earth; Her eggs are ready for fertilization.
Adding strength to the new and active energies right now, are both the new moon (in fiery Aries) and the return of Venus Pandemos from the Underworld (in earthy Taurus) both on March 24
So, take a walk in Nature. Feel the warmth of the sun upon your face and the strength of the earth beneath your feet. Know that what was started at Imbolg has been fertilized by the virility of the God and is supported by the maturity of the Goddess. May your workings bear fruit in the coming months.
THEODOMY
In the language of Theodomy, the 12 signs of the zodiac are further divided into 36 primordial energies of the divine feminine, called the Girdle of the Goddess.
At the time of Ostara, the sun is in the 1st primordial energy activating Anat, the Goddess of Aggression and Will. See my post ANAT for more details.
In Theodomy, the Sun represents Spirit (who we are within the collective) and the Earth represents the Self (the assimilated individual). At the time of the Vernal Equinox, Spirit is urging the collective towards individuality – birthing life from the great cosmic womb – but individually we experience an urge towards socialization – coming out of winter hibernation to connect with others and to the natural world around us.
