WHEEL OF THE YEAR
We have reached the halfway point on the Wheel of the Year – Midsummer – with the sun in Cancer and the earth in Capricorn.

Sun in Cancer

The God at Midsummer
The God has moved into Cancer, reaching his peak of strength as the full embodiment of solar light – the Oak King.  However, Cancer represents both the womb and the tomb.  (“We all come from the Goddess and to Her we shall return…”; ashes to ashes, dust to dust)

As womb, the Sun God feels the full support of the Goddess (behind every man…).  However, he also feels the tomb aspect looming.  His Shadow – the Holly King – has appeared.  Shadows at Midsummer appear small at first, but grow with the turning of the Wheel.

Earth in Capricorn

The Goddess at Midsummer
The Goddess has moved into Capricorn, the sign of authority, public status, and highest potential. She has developed through maidenhood and sexual awakening, and has now reached full womanhood, sitting Her throne as Queen and Earth Mother.

GIRDLE OF THE GODDESS
In the language of Theodomy, the 12 signs of the zodiac are further divided into 36 primordial energies of the divine feminine, called the Girdle of the Goddess

At the time of Midsummer, the sun is in the 10th primordial energy activating Frigg, the Goddess of fertility, family, home, love, and women.  See my post FRIGG for more information.

MIDSUMMER 2021
While Midsummer is definitely a time for celebration, it is also a time for stillness. The planting is done and the harvest yet to come. Solstice literally means “stationary sun” or “sun sanding still” as the Sun appears to pause a moment before its descending journey.

Midsummer 2021 has the added energies of Jupiter stationing retrograde, which encourages introspection and philosophical contemplation, especially as it pertains to the collective mystical picture.  (See my post INTROSPECTION and PERSPECTIVE at the SOLSTICE for a deeper exploration of these energies.)

So pause a moment, consider your place in this beautiful world …and enjoy the blessings of being alive.
