(Autumnal Equinox)

**The equinox is a time to appreciate the dual nature of the God.  While the Goddess is a constant, the God cycles.  Representing both life and death, the God is both a solar deity (Holly King) and an earthly deity (Green Man/Horned God).  At the Autumnal Equinox, the waning solar energies of Litha combine with the earthly sacrifice of Lughnasadh and together they act as a catalyst for death…and the setting of the God at Mabon.**

WHEEL OF THE YEAR
The Wheel has turned again bringing us to Mabon, the energetic opposite of Ostara.  At Ostara, the energies were directed out into the world but now, at Mabon, those energies focus inward as everything returns to the Goddess.

Day and Night are equal today but, in the spirit of co-operation and understanding (and in balance of the battle at Ostara), Day will surrender and Night will succeed.  From this point forward, night time hours will outnumber daylight hours.

Sun in Libra

The God at Mabon
At Lughnasadh, in his earthly aspect as the Green Man, the God sacrificed his Self for the good of the group.  Now, with the Sun moving into Libra (the sign of balance and harmony), the God co-operates with the Goddess instead of fighting in battle.  After a month travelling through Virgo (the sign of service, integration, and natural cycles), the Sun God understands the cycle of death and rebirth.  Here he unites with his earthy aspect in its descent to the Underworld, where he will become the Lord of Death at Samhain.

Earth in Aries

The Goddess at Mabon
As for the Goddess, She has transitioned through group-focused Aquarius and transcended to see the big picture in Pisces.  While the God was integrating his dual nature, the Goddess was experiencing Her own expansiveness and the full cycles within.  Now, as the Earth moves into Aries, the Goddess – with full appreciation of the cycles – initiates Her own journey towards an experience of life and a focus on Herself.

OTHER ENERGIES THIS MABON
Mars and Venus both add to the energies of Mabon this year.

Mars (God)
Mars is retrograde in his home of Aries – turning the usual fiery god of life and survival into himself, compounding fears and frustrations.  Furthermore, Mars is moving back towards a difficult meeting (square) with Pluto.  Internal tensions culminate on Oct 9 as Mars meets his death aspect, Pluto.  Ultimately, life must concede to death, but acceptance doesn’t come easy to the god of survival.

Venus (Goddess)
This year the annual solar descent coincides with Inanna’s (Venus) descent to the Underworld.  We are assured of the Goddess’s return as her consort Dumuzi (Mars) takes her place in the Underworld.

2020
Mabon has been called The Witches’ Thanksgiving.  It is a time when we reap what was sown over the year, acknowledging both the challenges and blessings that resulted.  It is also a time to be rid of that which no longer serves us – separate the wheat from the chaff.  Let go of anything that interferes with the coming quiet and rest, or anything that will impede growth in the next cycle.

2020 has been a very challenging year on many levels and, consequently, it may be difficult to find gratitude this season.  However, if we gather, thresh, and winnow the harvest we are bound to be left with something for which to be thankful.

We are here, we are alive, and we will survive!
This is the affirmation of the Goddess at Mabon (in Aries).

THEODOMY
In the language of Theodomy, the 12 signs of the zodiac are further divided into 36 primordial energies of the divine feminine, called the Girdle of the Goddess

At the time of Mabon, the sun is in the 19th primordial energy activating Harmonia, the Goddess of harmony, balance, union, and love.

See my HARMONIA post for more information.

Priestess Dawn

As the founder of Theodomy, Dawn combines her training in Gardnerian Witchcraft with her degrees in Psychology (B.A.) and Metaphysics (B.Msc.) to help others find connection with the divine and Self.
