METAPHYSICAL MUSINGS

English is powerful in its amalgamation of multiple languages, and subsequent efficiency.  However, it loses power – and even becomes dangerous – through its laziness and consequent lack of specificity. (This is also what makes it one of the most challenging languages to learn.)

English speakers and cultures are very fond of using single words for multiple meanings, leaving all the work up to context. While I agree context is important, it should not supplant the words themselves. Being one of the most direct ways of creating and transforming vibration (energy), words matter.

For instance, the words “positive” and “negative” have no innate moral or ethical meaning, yet many use these words to connote “good” and “bad”, instead of better, morally-specific words.  Superficially, we may not notice any issues with this, but mentally, psychologically, spiritually, and magically it becomes problematic and outright damaging.

POSITIVE & NEGATIVE are very broad concepts with large vibrational energies and many corresponding concepts, such as light, active, masculine, etc… & dark, passive, feminine, etc…  (Hopefully, the problems are becoming obvious.)  These energies represent polarity on a neutral continuum, not a  judgment or statement on morality.

All energy is neutral in its natural, universal state.  The universe holds absolutely no concept of morality or judgment.  It simply is.  Humans, however, have the ability to transmute energy and apply intention, be that helpful, harmful, friendly, inimical, good, bad, or neutral.

The misuse of “negative” to mean “harmful” or “evil” supports the degradation of all things feminine.  Correspondingly, the misuse of “positive” to mean “beneficial” or “good” supports the idea that all things masculine are good, and to be valued over anything feminine.

LIGHT and DARK struggle with the same judgements.  (i.e. “dark energies” or “a dark heart” meaning something evil, harmful, or uncaring.)

The Challenge

If you are speaking about issues that reference or imply moral/ethical judgment, use morally specific words like BENEFICENCE/OPTIMISM and MALEFICENCE/PESSIMISM, instead of neutral words like POSITIVITY/LIGHT or NEGATIVITY/DARK.

Examples:

OLD: “positive thinking”
NEW: “beneficent thinking”

OLD: “Ugh, Jane is such a negative person!”
NEW: “Ugh, Jane is such a pessimistic person!”

OLD: “I only send out positive vibes.”
NEW: “I only send out beneficent vibes.”

Of course, there are lots of other specific words that can be used (i.e. helpful/harmful, friendly/inimical, good/bad, etc…).

As long as we use specific words that actually hold a moral and/or ethical meaning instead of applying patriarchal judgment, we will work towards a healthier understanding of polarity and align ourselves more fully with the true universal vibrations.
